A CHURCH / A HISTORY
What we now call the Bethanie SDA Church of Columbia is the result of over 13 years of dedication to the cause of God and service to our Haitian sisters and brothers in this area, all through his divine mercy.
In the summer of 1998, following the merger of two separate initiatives, an evangelistic movement was born in Columbia’s Haitian community. It all began when sister Georgina St-Aubin, who tirelessly shared the truth of salvation with a few man and woman of good will, met brother Chérubin Dorcil, who had been trying to establish a Haitian group in the Baltimore-Columbia corridor. During a crusade led by pastor Dubreuze Jr, at the Chesapeake conference headquarters, the two met and put their heads together to start the Haitian Adventist Group of Columbia.
Supported by some friends in Columbia and a few members from Baltimore, and led by the two pioneers, the first meetings were held in a small room, at the Long reach village center. The group would meet there until the spring of 2000. For the next 11 years we held almost all of our meetings at the Oakland Mills interfaith center.
The Haitian Adventist group of Columbia was formally affiliated with Horeb Haitian SDA Church on march 11th, 2000, under the auspices of pastor Max Emmanuel Charles, since then, it has enjoyed the assistance of several leaders and members of this congregation, particularly in the areas of preaching and lay training.
Serving the group as Elder over the years were Chérubin Dorcil, Eric Charles, Jn-David Cadet and Arnel Nerette.it is the latter that God has chosen to lead the group towards the fulfillment of the dream so cherished by its founders, that of becoming a full-fledged Church.

UNE EGLISE / UNE HISTOIRE
Ce que nous appelons aujourd’hui l’eglise Adventiste Bethanie de Columbia est le fruit de plus de 13 années de dévouement dans la cause du Seigneur et au service de nos sœurs et frères Haïtiens de la zone, grâce à la miséricorde divine.
Durant l’été 1998, suite à la fusion de deux efforts distincts, un mouvement d’évangélisation vit le jour dans la communauté haitienne de Columbia. Tout commenca quand la soeur Georgina St-Aubin qui, inlassablement, partageait la vérité du salut avec quelques âmes de bonne volonté, fit la rencontre du frère Chérubin Dorcil qui travaillait à l’établissement d’un groupe haitien dans la région de Baltimore-columbia. Lors d’une croisade animée par le jeune Pasteur Dubreuze, au local de la Chesapeake conference, les deux se concertèrent pour lancer le groupe adventiste haitien de Columbia.
Soutenues par des amis de Columbia et quelques membres venus de Baltimore et animees par les deux pionniers, les premières réunions se tinrent au “long reach village center”, dans une petite sale. Le groupe allait s’y réunir jusqu’au printemps de l’an 2000. Durant les 11 prochaines années nous fîmes du centre œcuménique du village d’oakland mills notre lieu d’adoration.
Le groupe adventiste haitien de Columbia obtint son affiliation formelle à l’eglise d’horeb le 11 mars 2000, sous l’égide du pasteur Max Emmanuel Charles. Depuis lors, il a bénéficié du ministère de plusieurs leaders et membres de cette congregation, notamment dans les domaines de la predication et de la formation.
Parmi ceux qui ont dirigé le groupe de Columbia, citons les frères Chérubin Dorcil, Erick Charles, jn-David cadet et Arnel Nerette. C’est ce dernier que Dieu a choisi pour conduire le groupe vers la réalisation du rêve tant souhaite par ses fondateurs, celui de devenir une église à part entière.
